The genesis of Airate was a project to rehabilitate derelict one square block lots in Manhattan. Aside from green space, which is a given, the challenge became how to have the space "give back" to the city which hosts it. Energy generation was an obvious choice and the only viable solution is wind generated energy.
Two problems became apparent. One, large scale wind turbines must be set against a prevailing wind, causing them to operate a peak efficiency 30% of the time. Secondly, they are unsightly, causing them to be far removed from the general public.
The solution, Airate. A patented vertical wind turbine which not only accepts wind from any direction, it’s aesthetic, sculptural appeal is welcomed in environments its three-bladed cousins are not.
